Body Art Facilities

Florida Department of Health, Environmental Public Health: 386-274-0694, vCHDwellirr@FLhealth.gov

Body piercing and tattoo businesses in Volusia County are licensed and inspected by the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County.

There are health risks associated with body art. Forms of body art include tattooing, piercing, microblading, permanent cosmetics, and microneedling. Completion of an approved bloodborne pathogen and communicable disease training course is required for obtaining a tattooing license. These businesses are inspected annually or more by both an environmental specialist and a registered nurse.

Always choose licensed artists at licensed businesses when considering body art. Body art procedures present the potential for infection. Not only can body art lead to infections at the site of the body (especially if aftercare procedures are not followed), but other risks include allergic reactions and the transmission of bloodborne diseases, such as hepatitis or HIV.
