The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County works to prevent disease of environmental origin. Environmental health activities focus on prevention, preparedness, and education and are implemented through routine monitoring, education, surveillance and sampling of facilities and conditions that may contribute to the occurrence or transmission of disease.
An equally important function of Environmental Health is to provide timely advice and information to the public, businesses, and other governmental agencies on public health issues and concerns. This is especially critical when the health of Volusia County residents and visitors is threatened during emergencies such as hurricanes, fires, floods, hazardous materials incidents, sewage spills, and outbreaks of disease.
