Volusia County, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County (DOH-Volusia) has issued a health alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algae toxins found in the center of Lake Monroe. The alert is in response to water samples taken on May 18, 2026. The public should exercise caution in and around Lake Monroe.

Water sample testing continues. Blue-green algae have the potential to produce toxins. Since environmental conditions can change at any time, it is important to exercise caution, even if the presence of toxins has not yet been confirmed.
