In Florida, we often deal with heat. 'Extreme heat' is much less common, but it can be deadly. Heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable.
Extreme heat is defined as summertime temperatures that are much hotter and/or humid than average.
Extreme heat can lead to several heat related illnesses including heat stroke and heat exhaustion, which are the most severe. These heat-related illness may occur when the body is not able to properly cool itself through sweating and a person's body temperature rises faster than it can cool itself down.
