Vaccines are the best defense we have against serious, preventable, and sometimes deadly contagious diseases. Immunizations reduce absences both at daycare, school and other activities and decrease the spread of illness at home and in the community.
Immunizations for children are always free at the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County. Prior to enrollment into a childcare facility, or to attend school (kindergarten through 12th grade) children are required to have a Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH 680 form, a.k.a. "blue card"). For detailed information, visit Florida Shots.
Students entering 7th Grade
Before students enter the 7th grade, proof of current vaccinations are required. The vaccines listed below protect adolescents from very serious preventable diseases:
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) (English/Spanish)
- Meningococcal (English/Spanish)
- Human papillomavirus (HPV) (English/Spanish)
- Hepatitis A (English/Spanish)
To assist parents with getting ready to go back to school, the Florida Department of Health participates in numerous back-to-school events throughout Volusia County.
