Volusia County, Fl. – The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County (DOH-Volusia) will waive fees for bacteriological tests for private, residential potable wells during the next couple of weeks for residents living in flooded areas impacted by Hurricane Milton.
After flooding, water from private wells may not be safe to drink. Well owners should take steps to restore their private water supply. When a private water well has been flooded, the water in it may be contaminated with waterborne pathogens (germs) that can cause serious illness in humans and pets. If you believe that your well has been contaminated, stop using your well water for drinking and cooking purposes. Residents can obtain a sampling kit along with sampling instructions at any the following three offices. Samples should be returned with a contact name, address, phone number and email address where test results may be sent. Residents should allow up to 48 hours for sample results.
The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County provides Environmental Public Health services at:
- 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach.
- 717 W Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach.
- 775 Harley Strickland Blvd, Suite 101, Orange City.
This waiver does not apply to new construction clearances. For more information, email vchdwellirr@flhealth.gov or call (386) 624-0483.
