DOH-Volusia - World Aids Day Dec. 1; Healing and Remembrance Service in Daytona Beach

November 20, 2017

Daytona Beach, Fla. - On Friday, December 1, millions worldwide will join to show solidarity in the fight against Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) during the annual World AIDS Day. A local healing and remembrance service will begin at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1014 N. Halifax Drive, Daytona Beach.

People from across Volusia and Flagler counties are encouraged to attend to show support for people living with HIV/AIDS, unite our community in the fight against HIV/AIDS and remember those whom we have lost.

Keynote speaker Reverend Donna Choate will speak on the evolution of HIV, where we began, where we are now, and where we are going. Interfaith ministers also will discuss issues ranging from hope, stigma, courage, anger and challenges.

The healing ceremony will close with an invitation to participants to share photos of loved ones. A reception will follow.

Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first global health day, according to the event's website.

The Daytona Beach event is hosted by Comprehensive Care Center, the Department of Health in Volusia County, Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Outreach Community Care Network.
