Ribbon cutting ceremony/open house Sept. 21

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Volusia County soon will be serving residents from a new, consolidated location in Orange City. To celebrate the opening, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., September 21, at 775 Harley Strickland Boulevard, Orange City. The Volusia County Council and West Volusia elected officials have been invited. An open house will follow the ceremony from 9:15 a.m. - 10 a.m.

The public is encouraged to attend and tour the office, which offers medical, dental, and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services.

“The Orange City location will offer more services in one location,” said DOH-Volusia Administrator Patricia Boswell. “This is more convenient for our West Volusia clients.”

The new office serves Orange City, Deltona, Debary and DeLand collectively, Boswell said. It also is near other healthcare providers and the hub of public transportation routes serving those cities – Votran routes 20, 21, 22 and 23.

Medical services available to clients will include child and adult immunizations, travel immunizations, family planning, pregnancy testing and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, Boswell added.

Currently the closest DOH location offering dental services for the Deltona-area is at 120 E. New York Ave., DeLand. When the new location opens, dental services also will be available in Orange City.

When a tornado destroyed the DeLand clinic on February 2, 2007, DOH-Volusia services were dispersed to various locations. The Department has been working to secure funding and locate a suitable space to again consolidate services to improve client access and efficient service delivery.

A list of DOH-Volusia locations and services is online at volusiahealth.com/locations.
