The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County Supports Local World Heart Day Events
September 21, 2015
Support Local World Heart Day Events
The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County (DOH-Volusia) is supporting events for World Heart Day. World Heart Day raises awareness to the fact that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death. Heart disease strikes someone in the U.S. about once every 43 seconds.
By ensuring everyone has the chance to make healthy heart choices wherever they live, work and play, World Heart Day encourages people to reduce cardiovascular risk, and promotes a heart-healthy planet. The theme for 2015 is creating heart healthy environments and the Department of Health in Volusia County is working to ensure all residents have the tools necessary to be heart healthy.
On World Heart Day which is Tuesday, September 29, the public, community partners and health department employees are invited for an educational program with speakers presenting on Heart Healthy Living, the importance of taking medications and proper disposal of medications, reducing the risk of stroke and healthy food choices. Hands-OnlyTM CPR training and a demonstration on a new program called Get Fit While You Sit will also be provided.
