DOH-Volusia National HIV Testing Day June 27
June 13, 2019
Daytona Beach, Fla. – National HIV Testing Day is Thursday, June 27. The Volusia County Health Department encourages everyone to learn their status with a no-cost, rapid HIV test. Tests are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at Volusia County Health Department locations in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and Orange City.
Rapid HIV testing only requires a finger stick to collect a small drop of blood and produces results within 15 minutes. If test results indicate a blood draw is needed to confirm the rapid results, it also can be done onsite at no-cost.
Clients may remain anonymous for testing.
The Health Department offers educational information to prevent HIV transmission along with counseling. Rapid access to HIV treatment and services also are available through the Ryan White Program for clients who qualify.
Since last summer, the department has offered pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). PrEP is a once-daily pill that can reduce the chance of acquiring HIV in HIV-negative individuals.
Appointments are not necessary. For more information, please call 386-274-0517.
