DOH-Volusia - Enhanced Services Returning to New Smyrna Beach

By Holly Smith

November 21, 2016

Daytona Beach, Fla. - Beginning November 28, Southeast Volusia residents will have improved access to services provided by the Florida Department of Health (DOH).

"The Southeast Volusia community expressed a need for enhanced services," said DOH-Volusia Administrator Patricia Boswell. "By offering more in New Smyrna Beach, we are improving access to care, which is key to improving the health of the community."

The DOH-Volusia location at 717 W. Canal St., New Smyrna Beach, will be the third location offering a host of services in the county.

Department of Health services available to clients will include child and adult immunizations, travel immunizations, family planning, pregnancy testing as well as testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, Boswell said. Environmental Health services and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program will continue to operate on site.

Plans are underway to add dental care for children and emergency dental care for adults by summer 2017.

Medical services in New Smyrna Beach were scaled back last year due to staffing levels. When Boswell joined DOH-Volusia in March, she surveyed the community’s needs by talking with residents and local officials.

"The community told us they need services they can access," Boswell said. "By resuming services in New Smyrna Beach, our clients no longer will have to travel to our Daytona Beach or Orange City locations for care. We are removing one barrier to better health simply by improving access for the people we serve."

Clients may access any DOH-Volusia location. A list of DOH-Volusia locations and services is online at
