Jo Ann Weatherwax, MSDH, Dental Program Director

Jo Ann WeatherwaxJo Ann has a long history in the dental community. She began working as an orthodontic assistant in high school. When her last child graduated high school, she returned to complete her educational dream.

As a dental hygiene student, Jo Ann joined the State of Florida as a part-time dental assistant. Upon graduation, she became a dental hygienist with the Department of Health (DOH) in Osceola County where she served 11 years in various administrative positions including clinical manager.

Jo Ann became DOH-Volusia’s dental program director in 2008. She is responsible for developing and overseeing a six operatory clinic at the Daytona location. During her first eight years as director, the dental program has expanded to include two offices in West Volusia County and two school-based prevention programs.

Jo Ann has earned an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from Valencia Community College and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in dental hygiene education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and Sigma Phi Alpha – Alpha Gamma National Dental Hygiene Honor Society and is a published author (principal investigator) in the International Journal of Dental Hygiene. Jo Ann has received several professional awards, including college leadership awards, Proctor and Gamble Community Service Award, Swann D. Knowles Achievement Award, One Voice for Volusia – Efficiency in the Workplace Award, and Prudential Productivity awards.
